The Migratory V Concerto Competition 2026

The Migratory V Concerto Competition is open to all instruments,  including strings, piano, voice and winds. Repertoire can be any single movement of a concerto or piece for solo instrument and orchestra that is easily obtainable and in the public domain. 

Participants are required to submit video recording materials for the audition.

Eligibility

We invite school and college students under 22 to participate in the Competition.  One winner will be chosen to perform a concerto movement as part of  The Village Trip Festival 2026, in a special young people's concert, "Classical Cool: Ich bin ein New Yorker!," hosted by Nina Bernstein. The concert will celebrate the legacy of Leonard Bernstein and the indomitable spirit of New York City and her people. It will be held at the church of St. Mark's in the Bowery in the East Village on Sunday, October 4 at 4pm with the Village Trip Festival Orchestra under conductor Garrett Keast of the Berlin Academy of American Music. 

Judges

A panel of qualified judges will evaluate the audition materials. All judges are independent, and their students are not allowed to apply this season. Current  NY State Music Teachers Association  President Tomoko Uchino, District 1 President Amber Liao and conductor Garrett Keast  have been  invited as Judges  of the Concerto Competition 2026 live round on September 20 in Manhattan. How to Apply

To apply for the Competition participants must submit:

2. YouTube (or other video sharing sites) link to the video recordings of the performance. Performance can be with piano accompanist playing the orchestral parts or solo. The video must be recorded in a single, continuous take from one fixed camera angle, clearly showing the performer's face and hands, with no video or audio editing permitted. The video title should include the title and movement of the concerto, and the full name of the applicant.  Tuttis may be cut. All repertoire must be performed from memory. No repertoire changes are accepted after submission. Cadenzas may be performed as written by the composer, an alternate composer, or artist-composed.

3. Biography of the applicant in MS Word format (not to exceed 150 words). Include past participation in competitions, festivals and other public events. Portrait photo in electronic format, to be used for the program and poster.

5. Application fee $140 may be mailed with a check made out to Migratory V or sent by zelle to migratoryv. Clearly indicate name of the applicant.

Application Deadline

Application materials acceptance will be closed at the end of the day on September  14, 2026.  The final Live Round will take place on Sunday  September 20th,  2026 in Manhattan. The winner will be announced at the end of the day. 

Applications must include:

1. Application  Fee for solo performers – $140. 

Application Fees are not refundable.

2. YouTube (or other video sharing sites) link to the video recordings of the performance.

3. Biography of the applicant in MS Word format (not to exceed 150 words). Include past participation in competitions, festivals and other public events. Portrait photo in electronic format, to be used for the website and program brochure printing. 

4. Biography and photo should be uploaded with an application form and  e-mailed to rsfmarsyasgmailcom

5. Application fee $140 should be sent by zelle to rsfmarsyasgmailcom, or a check sent by mail..

SUMMER MUSIC ALDERSBACH - Summer Music Intensive

Highlights of Aldersbach 26: Our artists spent two weeks at the beautifully restored Aldersbach Abbey, now branded as, "Assam", after the Assam Brothers who were important in an earlier renovation of the abbey and church in Baroque/Rococo style in the 18th C, famous for their light plays and theater. Concerts were offered in the Abbey and in nearby Vilshofen's Alte Kirche.

Participants gave a concert in Salzburg, Austria! Our venue and home base in Salzburg was the famous Leopoldskron, one of the filming sites for the beloved film "The Sound of Music."

Calling All Pianists! All Ages and Stages - The piano and the Cosmos!

Four categories for performers:

Pianokosmos! featured NY metro area pianists in Madison Square Park on June 21st, 3:30-7:30. Our theme was the world of the piano and how we interact with the greater cosmos. Players were from all ages and stages, performing Bartok's Mikrokosmos bks 1-6, George Crumbs Makrokosmos Bks 1-3 and Vincent Ho's 12 Chinese Zodiac Animals, bks 1-3. Finale was Rzewski "The People United".
